October 2nd: Gandhi Jayanti ( International Day of Non-Violence)

Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday in India celebrated on 2nd October.  It marks the anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s birth on October 2nd , 1869.

The Father of the Nation is remembered for his contributions towards the Indian freedom struggle and this day is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence

I often look to Mahatma Gandhi for wisdom. His gentle approach to life showed that strength does not equal physical capacity. He said:

“In a gentle way, you can shake the world.”

“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”

“Where there is love there is life.”

“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”

 “Take care of this moment.”

“Be congruent, be authentic, be your true self.”

“Continue to grow and evolve.”

“A “No” uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a ‘Yes’ uttered merely to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.”

“Glory lies in the attempt to reach one’s goal and not in reaching it.”

“A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave.”
