The Lion Sleeps Tonight

In the jungle, the mighty jungle

The lion sleeps tonight

In the jungle the quiet jungle

The lion sleeps tonight

Near the village the peaceful village

The lion sleeps tonight

Near the village the quiet village

The lion sleeps tonight

Hush my darling don’t fear my darling

The lion sleeps tonight

Hush my darling don’t fear my darling

The lion sleeps tonight

George David Weiss , the co-author of What a Wonderful World, helped Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore rewrite a song which was to become famous.

The original title was “Mbube,” which means “lion.”: it was a hunting song originally sung in Zulu and popularized in the 1930s by South African singer Salomon Linda.

In 1960 producers Hugo and Luigi decided that the song needed new lyrics. With help from George Weiss, they rewrote the song and gave it the title The Lion Sleeps Tonight

This song was used in Disney’s 1994 hit movie “The Lion King”
