The morns are meeker than they were   (12)

The morns are meeker than they were –
The nuts are getting brown –
The berry’s cheek is plumper –
The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a gayer scarf –
The field a scarlet gown –
Lest I sh’d be old-fashioned
I’ll put a trinket on.

Le mattine sono diventate più miti,
le noci più scure,
le guance delle bacche più tonde,
la rosa non è più in città.

L’acero ha indossato una sciarpa più gaia,
la campagna una gonna scarlatta.
Allora per non essere da meno
