This blues song appeared on Journeyman, a 1989 album by Eric Clapton. which covered a wide range of styles including blues, jazz, soul and pop. It was considered the artist’s return to sobriety, after his struggle with alcohol addiction
The album found commercial success, but everything was dampened by the horrific tragedy of Clapton’s four-year-old son, Conor, who fell from a 53rd floor window in the apartment where his mother Lory Del Santo was staying in New York City, on March 20, 1991. Clapton’s grief was later captured in the song “Tears in Heaven”. In an interview Clapton stated, “I almost subconsciously used music for myself as a healing agent, and it worked… I have got a great deal of happiness and a great deal of healing from music”.
