Queen – “We Are the Champions” (1)

I’ve paid my dues
Time after time
I’ve done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I’ve made a few
I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face
But I’ve come through

And I need to go on and on, and on, and on.

We are the champions, my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting ’til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions of the world

I’ve taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it
I thank you all

But it’s been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain’t gonna lose

And I need to go on and on, and on, and on.

We are the champions, my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting ’til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions of the world

We are the champions, my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting ’til the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the Champions

“We Are the Champions”, released in 1977, is one of Queen’s most popular songs which has been covered by many artists, and has become an hymn for victories of any kind obtained through hard work and perseverance Hence, it serves as a victory anthem surrounding sporting events around the world, able to get the crowds waving and singing

We” refers to everyone and the same holds true for its counterpart, “We Will Rock You”: the two songs were written as companions and are often played consecutively.

Freddie Mercury said he was thinking about football when he wrote it. He explained: “I wanted a participation song, something that the fans could latch on to. Of course, I’ve given it more theatrical subtlety than an ordinary football chant. I suppose it could also be construed as my version of ‘I Did It My Way.’ We have made it, and it certainly wasn’t easy. No bed of roses as the song says. And it’s still not easy.”
But the rest of the band were surprised when Mercury presented them with the song, because they considered its message too arrogant, even for them. But Freddie aimed at an audience that wanted to feel unified and positive, willing to sing it.
However, this song does not limit itself to sports. It can be sung to celebrate any form of victory, as it is capable of adjusting to any situation.

In 2011, a team of scientific researchers concluded that the song was the catchiest song in the history of pop music, despite its not hitting #1 in the charts in any major market.

Noi siamo i campioni – amici miei
e continueremo a lottare fino alla fine
Noi siamo i campioni,
noi siamo i campioni

Noi siamo i campioni – amici miei
e continueremo a lottare fino alla fine
Noi siamo i campioni,
noi siamo i campioni
non c’è tempo per i perdenti
perché noi siamo i campioni del mondo
Noi siamo i campioni – amici miei
e continueremo a lottare fino alla fine
Noi siamo i campioni,
noi siamo i campioni
non c’è tempo per i perdenti
perché noi siamo i campioni.
