“This Land Is Your Land” (1)

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.

I’ve roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.

The sun came shining as I was strolling,
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
The fog was lifting and a voice came chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

As I was walking, I saw a sign there
And that sign said “No Trespassing.”
But on the other side it didn’t say nothing,
Now that side was made for you and me.
“This Land Is Your Land” is one of the United States’ most famous folk songs, whose lyrics were written by Woody Guthrie in 1940 on an existing Baptist gospel hymn that had already inspired the Carter Family.

dalla California all’isola di New York

e tutto intorno a me risuonava una voce:

i campi di grano ondeggiavano e le nuvole di polvere rotolavano;

e quel cartello diceva “Non oltrepassare”

  1. Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau was a fairly good singer, and he sang the chorus as:
    This land is your land,
    This land is my land,
    From Nova Scotia to Vancouver Island,
    From the Arctic Circle to the Great Lakes waters,
    This land was made for you and me.

    I have had the pleasure of hearing Arlo Guthrie sing it in person several times. It is truly moving.

    Enjoying your song history. Thanks!
