Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Its aim is to inspire awareness and appreciation for Earth’s environment.

It was first organized in 1970 to promote ecology and respect for life on the planet as well as to encourage awareness of the growing problems of air, water, and soil pollution. Now it includes events in more than 193 countries, coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network,

On Earth Day 2016, the Paris Agreement was signed at UN Headquarters in New York. It is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance.

On June 1, 2017, United States President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would cease all participation in the pact described as “an agreement that disadvantages the United States to the exclusive benefit of other countries.”

  1. Thanks for the reminder on this Luisa, it’s a beautifully overcast Easter Monday holiday here in Trinidad & Tobago… I don’t know what time it is where you are but I hope your Earth Day was wonderful…

  2. It rained all day here, and now it has got into the mood and is REALLY raining, nonstop. I expect some areas are likely to be flooded by tomorrow. Oh, and there goes the thunder! That is a new element in this particular storm. And the wind has just increased in intensity. All a part of the wonders of Earth

  3. We have to do something every day for our Mother Earth, not because somebody says so, but because it’s in our own interest, for the survival of our own specie. If we destroy our habitat, we will destroy ourselves…

    1. Hi Luisa and Ianus,

Thank you for your respective contributions to this very important day of celebration. I concur with both of you, and would like to resonate with your spirit of Earth day with mine at https://soundeagle.wordpress.com/2013/04/25/soundeagle-in-earth-day/

Since this is a very long and involved post, please be informed that you might need to use a desktop or laptop computer with a large screen to view the rich multimedia contents available for heightening your multisensory enjoyment at my websites, some of which could be too powerful and feature-rich for iPad, iPhone, tablet or other portable devices to handle properly or adequately. A fast broadband connection is also helpful. 🙂
