Bob Marley, who was born in Jamaica on this day, 6 February 1945, helped introduce reggae music to the world. He died in 1981.
The reggae song Buffalo Soldier was written by Bob Marley and N.G. Williams, aka King Sporty, in 1980. It was released two years after Marley’s death, due to a type of malignant melanoma under the nail of one of his toes.
The title and lyrics refer to the black U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment, known as “Buffalo Soldiers”, that fought in the Indian Wars after 1866.
Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta:
There was a Buffalo Soldier in the heart of America,
Stolen from Africa, brought to America,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.
I mean it, when I analyze the stench –
To me it makes a lot of sense:
How the Dreadlock Rasta was the Buffalo Soldier,
And he was taken from Africa, brought to America,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival.
Said he was a Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta –
Buffalo Soldier in the heart of America.
If you know your history,
Then you would know where you coming from,
Then you wouldn’t have to ask me,
Who the heck do I think I am.
I’m just a Buffalo Soldier in the heart of America,
Stolen from Africa, brought to America,
Said he was fighting on arrival, fighting for survival;
Said he was a Buffalo Soldier win the war for America.
Dreadie, woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy ā¦.
Buffalo Soldier trodding through the land, wo-ho-ooh!
Said he wanna run, then you wanna hand,
Trodding through the land, yea-hea, yea-ea.
Said he was a Buffalo Soldier, win the war for America;
Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta,
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival;
Driven from the mainland to the heart of the Caribbean.
Singing, woy yoy yoy, woy yoy-yoy ā¦..
Trodding through San Juan in the arms of America;
Trodding through Jamaica, a Buffalo Soldier
Fighting on arrival, fighting for survival:
Buffalo Soldier, Dreadlock Rasta.
to be continued…
Soldato Bisonte
rubato via dall’Africa e portato in America
preso dall’Africa e portato in America,
allora non dovresti chiedere a me
rubato via dall’Africa e portato in America

I’m somewhat familiar with the song but never really knew the lyrics. Before WWII the Buffalo soldiers were stationed at Ft Myers near Arlington Cemetery under George Patton. After the cavalry was disbanded, I saw the unit as part of the Light Infantry at Ft Ord near Monterey. No longer a segregated unit and still with a proud history.

Thanks for this interesting clarification. Tomorrow I will post an analysis of the lyrics

Grazie mille, buon fine settimana, grazie mille!

Bob Marley.

Proprio ieri ascoltavo, in auto, āgood vibrations ā di Marley, pensavo come , a me perlomeno, riuscisse a trasmettere positivitĆ .
Spesso ascolto āBabylon by busā, il doppio migliore, per me.
Buona giornata e buon proseguimento.
