My nephew got married last Saturday. I received wedding participation and took part with my sons in the ceremony, convinced that a reception had been avoided in times of pandemic.
You can imagine the sadness I felt when I discovered in the churchyard that over a hundred people were going to a banquet from which we had been excluded by my brother, who has very old grudges toward me.
This shot was taken by one of my sons as I sadly walked back to our car.
In Italy we have a saying about toxic relatives, just two rhyming words: “parenti serpenti” meaning that some of the most poisonous people come disguised as family. What do you think?
“Parenti Serpenti”. I can relate to this.

What a horrible thing to have experienced and such a shame that a day of celebration had such pettiness. Hope your nephew and his bride enjoy happiness and that your brother learns that life is too short for petty grudges. Most of all, I hope that you are feeling ok!

Non ti far coinvolgere da questi rancori. Li conosco bene.

Ancora? “ uh Cara .

Metafora perfetta purtroppo!
Cerca di elaborare, di comprendere e guardate avanti. Non puoi fare altro.

You are definitely not alone in these situations Luisa. I remember spending many wonderful holidays and trips away with my wife’s sister and her husband, but the two sisters fell out a while ago.
My brother-in-law fell ill earlier this year and died 2 weeks ago and we weren’t even invited to the funeral. I remember the good times when we laughed until we cried, but I’ve shed a few tears recently for all the wrong reasons.

I am so so sorry this happened to you. ☹️ It’s so sad and insulting. Grudges should not be held for long, especially not with close family such as siblings. We are genetically more related to our siblings than even our parents or children (yeah, 50% in all cases but there is a possibility of sharing more DNA with siblings than with the others) yet, sadly, that is always the most combustible relationship. I’ve never seen you write about personal experiences so I get the extent of your pain. I am deeply sorry this happened to you and I hope your nephew has a happy marriage. 💗🤍💗🤍💗

Devestating. It does seem those closest to us wield the most power to do us harm. Family, those people we want to give and recieve unconditional love with, but oftentimes it is the internal struggles of a family member that make that exhange possible. For me, I keep looking for bridges with family, but sometimes I get sieged as in your case, and also just feel that those bridges get burned. Thank you for sharing your journey.

Sympathies, very many sympathies, Luisa. Very hurtful.
I suppose I decided, for myself, in the midst of catastrophic such familial events, to give up the pain because it came to me that my it was my ego that was in pain and that it is no more important than any other organ of my body and certainly less important than the compassion and understanding that came to me, then, for those who thought to narrow my life by inflicting such pain on me. Then my life, I suppose, began to flow into new channels where no pain from this particular source can take root.
Thinking, of course, of you because this is, nevertheless, hard, very hard.
Also, would that I looked as good as you look in this photo. And of course, lover of la mode that I am, I covet your handbag………..

It happens in most families, it’s a disaster!
By the way the word disaster comes from the Latin and the original meaning was: Stars clashing, like in your horoscope when some planets are clashing with each other, and provoke people to be estranged, and in disharmony from each other, even brothers, and sisters!
In English just we say, that they don’t get along well. 😒🤦♂️🤷♂️
