Orazio/Horace

Quinto Orazio Flacco, noto più semplicemente come Orazio (nato a Venosa l’ 8 dicembre 65 a.C.) è considerato uno dei maggiori poeti dell’età antica.

Quintus Horatius Flaccus (born on 8 December 65 BC) known in the English-speaking world as Horace, was the leading lyric poet in Latin.

Dum loquimur, fugerit invida aetas: carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero.
As we speak cruel time is fleeing. Seize the day, believing as little as possible in the morrow.

Cease to inquire what the future has in store, and take as a gift whatever the day brings forth.

Semel emissum, volat irrevocabile verbum.
Una volta detta, una parola vola via irrevocabile.
Once a word has been allowed to escape, it cannot be recalled.

What may not be altered, is made lighter by patience.

They change their sky, not their soul, who rush across the sea.

Grazie Luisa.
