“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens was first published on 19 December 1843. The first run of 6,000 copies sold out by Christmas Eve. Chapman and Hall issued second and third editions before the new year, and by the end of 1844 eleven more editions had been released.
It is a morality tale of an old and bitter miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. During their visit he undergoes a profound experience of redemption and is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.
While Scrooge is observing the joyful proceedings of his nephew’s party, whose joy seems to spread among the guests, Dickens makes this observation:
“… while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour”

So true. We can either bemoan what we do not have or we can be grateful for what we have. Being of good humour and sharing smiles and laughter can change the view on any situation. Have a good Sunday Luisa. Allan

Thank you, Luisa, your choice of subject is great as is your tale.
I love how Scrooge’s changes and above all I find the observation by Dickens so true and wonderful.
Laughter and good humour are indeed irresistible. 💖.

Do you know that today our Pope Francis said that everyone should “cultivate the gift of a healthy good humour”?

Very timely, dear Luisa. I hope this contagion catches on worldwide and eclipses Coronavirus as the fastest spreading epidemic.
