Winter

The winter solstice marks the official beginning of astronomical winter.
It falls on 21 December in the Northern Hemisphere and in June in the Southern Hemisphere
It is the shortest day of the year, after which the days start getting longer.

However, for meteorologists and climatologists, the first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere is on the 1st of December.
While the start of astronomical seasons can change a few days from year to year, but generally occurs around the 21st of the month, meteorological seasons always begin on the first day of December, March, June, and September.
In other words, while meteorologists divide the seasons according to weather rhythms on Earth and annual temperature cycles, astronomers look at space and the rotation of our planet around the Sun. It is the Earth’s tilted axis that causes the seasons, for example we have winter here, in the Northern Hemisphere, when the South Pole tilts toward the Sun.

Il solstizio d’inverno segna l’inizio ufficiale dell’inverno astronomico.

È il giorno più corto dell’anno, dopo di che le giornate iniziano ad allungarsi.

Tuttavia, per i meteorologi e i climatologi, il primo giorno d’inverno nell’emisfero settentrionale è il 1° dicembre.
Infatti, mentre l’inizio delle stagioni astronomiche può variare di alcuni giorni di anno in anno, ma si verifica in genere intorno al 21 del mese, le stagioni meteorologiche iniziano sempre rispettivamente il primo giorno di dicembre, marzo, giugno e settembre.
In altre parole, mentre i meteorologi dividono le stagioni in base ai ritmi meteorologici sulla Terra e ai cicli di temperatura annuali, gli astronomi guardano allo spazio e alla rotazione del nostro pianeta attorno al Sole. È l’asse inclinato della Terra che causa le stagioni, per esempio noi abbiamo l’inverno qui nell’emisfero settentrionale quando il Polo Sud si inclina verso il Sole.
