Faith and Sacred Dances

“Conscious faith is freedom.
Emotional faith is slavery.
Mechanical faith is foolishness.”

George Ivanovich Gurdjieff was born on 13 January but the exact year remains unknown , since he burned all his private papers and documents before going to America in 1930. Some historians put his date of birth in 1866 and others in 1877, the year that appears on his passport. 1872 is the year inscribed on his gravestone in the cemetery of Avon, Seine-et-Marne, France, where he was buried in 1949.

He was an influential Greco-Armenian mystic, philosopher, and spiritual teacher. He was also a composer and teacher of Sacred Dances which constitute an integral part of his work and were studied by those who wanted to reach a higher consciousness.

This video is taken from the 1979 British film “Meetings with Remarkable Men” (based on a book by Gurdjieff himself) directed by Peter Brook, which made some of Gurdjieff’s movements public.

Fu un influente mistico, filosofo e insegnante spirituale greco-armeno. Fu anche compositore e insegnante di Danze Sacre che costituiscono parte integrante del suo lavoro e furono studiate da chi voleva raggiungere una coscienza superiore.
