Thank you Wikipedia❣️
Today we celebrate Wikipedia‘s birthday, born from an idea of the entrepreneur Jimmy Wales and the philosopher Larry Sanger
It was launched on 15 January 2001, as a development of another encyclopedia project called Nupedia.
Wikipedia is a free multilingual online encyclopedia that includes all forms of knowledge and makes them accessible to all.
Written and supported by a community of volunteer contributors, it uses a software known as wiki that facilitates the creation and development of articles.
The main aspect of the wiki (Hawaiian term which means “fast”) is to facilitate the creation and modification of a page, allowing hyperlinks to other pages.
It relies only on user donations, it has no advertising or cookies to resell data.
Contributors, known as “Wikipedians”, after registering with a nickname and a password , can edit any content, with the possibility of reviewing it and discussing, through a forum, with other users.
The Wikipedia community is based on a limited number of standard principles such as neutrality or the faith that contributors are participating in an honest and deliberate fashion. The Wikipedia community encourages users “to be bold” when updating it, as it is their help that makes it better and better.
Its logo is a globe made up of jigsaw piece, each containing a letter or another character, symbolizing its multilingualism. In most cases they represent the first character of the name “Wikipedia” rendered in various languages.
Some pieces are missing at the top, which means that, since Wikipedia is constantly updated and expanded, it is not complete yet!
Grazie, Wikipedia❣️
Idea splendida. 💡💡💡

There was a time before Wikipedia?!😀 Luisa, I enjoyed learning much more about this resource which we all take for granted but which has become an integral part of our lives and information seeking. I had no idea wiki meant fast in Hawaiian-lovely to know!

It seems almost impossible that Wikipedia did not exist in the past, does it?
I find it indispensable and I would be lost without it🙏🙏🙏

Good post. I contribute to very few things now, but do give to Wikipedia each year. It’s important to keep things like that going.

It is a non-profit foundation. whose mission is to ensure that everyone can share and access free information. But in order to keep the knowledge free it needs donations, 🪙

Grazie Luisa, interessantissimo.
