Frida Kahlo (born in a suburb of Mexico City on 6 July 1907) was a famous painter who married the Cubist painter Diego Rivera in 1929, from whom she divorced in 1939 due to his betrayal with her sister, and then married again in 1940.Frida always followed him wherever he went, despite his repeated infidelities and her health problems.
Her life was a painful one, marked by a physical suffering that began with polio contracted at the age of five that forced her to bed for nine months and left her slightly limping.
In 1925, when she was 18, the bus she was traveling on was hit by an electric streetcar and an iron handrail pierced her from the stomach to the pelvis.
The trauma was very serious, but she miraculously recovered, even though her injuries would cause chronic pain in her back and right leg.
The medicine of her time tortured her young body with thirty-two surgeries, corsets of various kinds and mechanical “stretching” systems. She had to spend the next two years in bed, … and the rest of her life in profound physical discomfort.
It was during her hospitalization and the subsequent bed-rest when Frida began to explore painting: through her art, she managed to transcend a life of pain and disability.
In 1953, the year before her death, she had her right leg amputated for an infection resulting in gangrene.
Quotes on pain :
“Pain is not part of life; it can become life itself.”
“The only good thing I have is that I’m starting to get used to suffering…”
“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.”
“I tried to drown my sorrows in alcohol, but now the damned things learned how to swim.“
“I have suffered two grave accidents in my life, one in which a streetcar knocked me down… The other accident is Diego.”

Frida Kahlo was a brave woman. She had suffered a lot in her life but didn’t give up. I salute her. Thank you so much, dear Luisa, for sharing such a super inspirational, heart touching post. We can learn so much for her. I had tears while I read about her suffering. I understood that there are people who are living in miserable condition, worse than what I went through, but never gave up or wallowed in self-pity. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👌👌👌👌👏👏👏😊😊😊 Congratulations for sharing a valuable post.

Luisa ! Frida Kahlo , a painter par excellence , faced two grave accidents in her life : one was a street car knocked her down and second was Diego Rivera , her husband ! And husband is generally one of the greatest accidents of every woman’s life . He multiply pain many more times in her life if husband is like Diego Rivera . Anyway , pain remained a life long friend of her and inspiring force for she being a painter . So , it is said , ‘Pain is not part of life , it can become life itself .’ And pain indeed became life of Frida , the painter . Thanks Luisa ! You have introduced today a Mexican woman painter to us all .

You are very welcome. She was some woman given the time she lived in. Here’s a bit of whimsy for you. The musician…a known Dundee one…could have made it ona far bigger stage but made the choice early to come home from London and write whimsical things about Dundee. Of course Frida never visited here in her life, let alone that bar but he was trying to capture some of her life. https://youtu.be/1X0rqVVAmXw
