Today Pope Francis opened the Synod of Bishops with a solemn Mass in St Peter’s Basilica. In his homily he emphasized three verbs that characterize the journey of the Synod: encounter, listen, and discern.
The Pope said we all are called to become experts in the art of encounter without wearing expressions of circumstance but willing to allow ourselves to be challenged by the presence and the stories of others.
He added that a true encounter only comes through listening to others, allowing them to express themselves, without offering ready-made answers.
Meeting and listening to one another will open a dialogue and lead to discernment, if we allow ourselves to be challenged, transformed so as to advance together on the journey.

Hello! Sorry, Luisa! Some weeks in the past i had to self host the blog, because Germany’s interpretation of the GDPR does not allow the WP plugin Jetpack. Now i am (also) available at: https://books.eslarn-net.de. And wil repost excerpts as possible.

The Pope offered a very useful message if we will only heed it. Unfortunately, too many people will assume they already know the answer. Wonderful message, Luisa.

You are so sadly right. Do you know what he added? A cute expression: we shouldn’t “soundproof our hearts”
