Gwendolyn Brooks was an American poet and writer, born on 7 June 1917- She was the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Literature for her book of poems “Annie Allen”.
She said: “Very early in life I became fascinated with the wonders language can achieve. And I began playing with words.”
Three quotes:
Truth-tellers are not always palatable. There is a preference for candy bars
Art hurts. Art urges voyages – and it is easier to stay at home
Poetry is life distilled

She was a wise woman. The truth is most of us like things to be sugar coated. We do not always want a steady diet of truth, but we often need it. Happy Friday Luisa. Allan

Yet another set of wonderful quotes, dear Lusia. You know, truths are the most inconvenient things. And generally speaking will arouse the ire of those who wish to ignore them for whatever reason. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva x

Gwendolyn Brooks (“Poetry is me.”) You bring to your blog one of the most representative women of American poetry of the 20th century. We are sure to have more about her in your posts. I have a feeling you’ve just given us an appetizer. To expand my knowledge about literary matters, the best thing is to be on your portal. When I read you, I copy from Gwendolyn: “Above my head, I hear music in the air.” A big hug Luisa.
