“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books and that’s kind of the same thing.”
Today August 9 is Book Lovers’ Day, an unofficial holiday that inspires people to pick up a book – or two – and spend the day reading.
Studies have shown that reading is not only entertaining, but can also have several health benefits: it helps reduce stress and sleep better, keeps the brain sharp: Recently scientists have found that readers are much more likely to be empathic and understanding of others.
“There is no friend as loyal as a book”. –Ernest Hemingway
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” –Frederick Douglas
“Beware of the person of one book.” –Thomas Aquinas
“No two persons ever read the same book.” –Edmund Wilson
“So many books, so little time.” –Frank Zappa
