Pepys and Marriage

Samuel Pepys (born on 23 February 1633) was a naval administrator, well known for his Diary which gives a fascinating picture of the upper-class life of Restoration London through the 1660s.
He wrote his diary in shorthand, to ensure that no one could read it easily and he often further encoded the accounts of his many affairs using a mixture of English and foreign words.

In one of his entries (1665) we read:
“To church in the morning, and there saw a wedding in the church, which I have not seen many a day; and the young people so merry one with another, and strange to see what delight we married people have to see these poor fools decoyed into our condition…”

“Stamattina in chiesa ho visto un matrimonio, cosa che non vedevo da tempo: i giovani erano raggianti. E’ strano notare la gioia che proviamo noi persone sposate a vedere questi poveri sciocchi attirati nella nostra stessa condizione…”

  1. LUISA, thank you, it was very nice .. again I say this beauty that’s presented to me over the networks has brought me more peace than human beings have in a lifetime . I’m taking care of my little family here and unfortunately we had to meet a bad veterinarian and it happens in every field but it’s unfortunate little Sammy had to go through all of this and so did I . days of really sobbing on my part I couldn’t speak about it without sobbing into someone’s ear that was kind enough to call me or help me with the bills of almost 2, 500 American dollars. he is grateful and he is happy ,the internal bleeding has stopped FINALLY . you have to demand, that’s the kind of nurse I was with my patients and my husband but not for myself I don’t care about me too much ,but when something doesn’t look right you keep at it until you get the attention you need from the doctors or who was in charge. The little guys face is healing nicely what kind of evil being did this to his little face I’ll never know and if it wasn’t for that he never would have come here &everything now else that didn’t suit all of his problems that happened later the biting and everything came from after the neutering and after the infection that she let him have all the terror about rabies Terry Terror about rabies for him to little guy outside that comes here to eat and myself it was an ordeal it will always be and put that pain into something else and watch A Miracle Grow that’s how I feel I’ve done it all through my life and I just read the story I think it’s really nice and it makes you think I like anything that makes you think thank you my love

  2. A very good and close friend of my family has the complete collection of Pepys diaries. It would be nearly 40 years since I last saw the collection, but it has always left an impression on me because he thoughts helped this great friend deal with the challenges in their life.
