Strawberry Moon

… The moon, like a flower
In heaven’s high bower,
With silent delight
Sits and smiles on the night…

 “NIGHT” – William Blake

luna rosa

June’s Full Moon is named after the wild strawberries that start to ripen during this month. This  is the seventh full moon of the year and  falls overnight between 27 and  28 June.
Other names for this this early summer moon  are Rose Moon, Hot Moon, Honey Moon and Hay Moon ( because it’s the time of the first hay harvest) or also Mead Moon (because this is the time for mowing the meadows).
The Full Strawberry Moon got its name from the Native American Algonquin tribes who knew it as a signal. to harvest wild strawberries for consumption.
