“Wanting to meet an author because you like his work is like wanting to meet a duck because you like pâté.” (epigram tacked to the office bulletin board of Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, born on 18 November 1939)
“All writers are double, for the simple reason that you can never actually meet the author of the book you have just read. Too much time has elapsed between composition and publication, and the person who wrote the book is now a different person.”
A lot of my readers are often disappointed when they find out that the way I speak is often different than the way I write. 🫤

I can imagine that: authors are different from their writings, just as the way of expressing oneself is different from speaking to writing

Funny, my friends tell me I write exactly the way I talk. They say reading my books is like having me sitting in their kitchens having coffee across the table. I guess it makes writing a lot less complicated. 😉

This is rather an exciting story for me😀. They expect more if not the exact flow of words from authors. I think most authors experience it. I think l fall in the same category.

Yes, very true… Just as it is also true that bloggers write blogs, read blogs nowadays… and yet they are so far apart… and they never take the symbolic pen and do not make anything personal, only the their opinion. The Internet is an exhibition genre. Not a church devotion…

Happy Birthday to Margaret, indeed. Margaret Atwood is a Canadian icon, only now becoming more well known outside Canada, due to the Handmaid’s Tale series. Happy Friday Luisa. Allan

Concordo. Quindi leggo i libri e basta.

If you don’t differentiate between author and narrator, we run the risk that the author will take criticism as a personal attack. The choice of quotes has a lot of value to make us understand an aspect of the writers. Amazing photo Luisa.

I have found the second quote to be true: working on my debut novel was a process of healing for me after being abandoned three times by people I had trusted and loved. It was a new beginning for me.

Occasione persa, senza dubbio.
Forse.

Interesting food for thought. I’m not sure I’ve changed that much since writing any of my books. My husband tells me I haven’t changed what I am, I’m just “more so.” I guess I’ve found what suits me, and I’m settling into that for good. 😉

I have never thought about the possibility to confront and paragon an author to a duck. But this was the irony of Margaret Atwood.
At the same time I agree about the truth that who write is not the same.
